The G.O.A.T. - Part 6: Our Great FAmily
MAIN TEXT(S): Hebrews 10:24–25; Ephesians 4:11–16
BIG IDEA: A healthy church gathers, grows, serves, and commits—because we belong to Christ and to one another.
DISCUSSION GUIDE:
I. Gathering With Gladness (Hebrews 10:25)
Read Hebrews 10:25
What excuses do people (including ourselves) often make for not gathering with the church? Which of these do you find most tempting?
In what ways does faithfully gathering for worship glorify God first, and then bless us second?
The sermon compared believers to coals in a fire—what happens when we stay connected, and what happens when we drift away? How have you experienced this in your own life?
II. Growing Through Guidance (Ephesians 4:11–13)
Read Ephesians 4:11–13
Note how Paul describes the role of church leaders in Ephesians 4. Why is it important that leaders equip rather than do all the ministry themselves?
Think about the Coach Tom Landry analogy from this week’s sermon. How is the church weakened if members stay on the sidelines instead of engaging in ministry?
III. Giving in Service (Ephesians 4:15–16; Hebrews 10:24)
Read Ephesians 4:15–16 and Hebrews 10:24
Hebrews 10:24 tells us to “provoke” (or stir up) one another to love and good works. What does that look like in daily life?
The marching band and “rally rag” illustrations in this week’s sermon show that everyone has a part to play. What’s one way you are (or could be) contributing to the ministry of the church?
IV. Grounded in Commitment (1 Corinthians 12:27)
Read 1 Corinthians 12:27
Why do you think so many Christians today “date the church” instead of committing to membership?
How does church membership provide accountability, care from leaders, and unity among believers?
ACTION STEPS:
Prioritize Participation: Don’t treat gathering with God’s people as optional. Make worship with your church family a priority, not an afterthought.
Pursue Preparation: Come to church ready to grow: bring an open Bible, a prayerful heart, and a willingness to be equipped for ministry.
Practice Partnership: Refuse to sit on the sidelines. Use your gifts in service and encouragement so the whole body is strengthened in love.
Pledge Permanence: Stop “dating the church.” Commit yourself fully to Christ’s bride through membership, accountability, and faithfulness.
FOR REFLECTION
What step of deeper commitment to Christ’s church is God calling you to make right now—whether in membership, service, or accountability?
